Saudi Arabia Leverages Energy Advantage for AI Dominance
Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a global AI powerhouse by leveraging its $2/boe energy resources to power large-scale data centers. Aramco CEO Amin Nasser confirmed the kingdom will utilize its low-cost gas and renewable energy to meet the surging demand for AI infrastructure. "If you want gas, you will find the lowest cost gas. If you want renewable, you will find the lowest cost renewable," Nasser stated, emphasizing Saudi Arabia's unmatched scalability in land and energy resources.
By 2030, AI data centers are projected to consume nearly four times more power than all electric vehicles globally, with gas as the primary energy source supplemented by renewables. This aligns with Aramco's strategy to boost natural gas production by over 60% by 2030. The kingdom is also making strategic investments, including a minority stake in Saudi AI firm Humain, backed by the Public Investment Fund, to compete with China and the U.S. in the AI race.
